TIPS:
>> Read the entire pattern/chart and view the help videos before you begin.
>> Consult my video page often to review the basic crochet techniques.
To Make the Shrug:
1. Chain a length of yarn that wraps loosely around the fullest part of your upper arm/shoulder. NOTE: Number of chain stitches must equal a multiple of 7 (odd number only) plus 1. For example, my upper arm required a chain of 35 stitches -- 35 + 1 = 36 chain stitches needed (for me) to begin pattern. Be sure to periodically count your stitches to make sure you are maintaining your chosen stitch multiple (e.g. I maintained 35 stitches in every row).
2. Single Crochet (SC) in 2nd chain from hook (never count loop on hook). SC across row. Turn work.
3. Chain (CH) 4 stitches (counts as 1st Treble Crochet in the row), *CH 1 more, skip next stitch, Treble Crochet (TR) in next stitch* - repeat between *s to end of row. Turn work.
4. CH 3 (counts as 1st Double Crochet in the row), Double Crochet (DC) 2, CH 1, skip next stitch, DC 3, *DC 3, CH 1, skip next stitch, DC 3* - repeat between *s to end of row. Turn work.

See pics to the right for reference -->
5. CH 3 (counts as 1st DC in the row), CH 1, skip next stitch, DC 3, CH 1, skip next stitch, DC 1, *DC 1, CH 1, skip next stitch, DC 3, CH 1, skip next stitch, DC 1* - repeat between *s to end of row. Turn work.
6. Chain (CH) 4 stitches (counts as 1st TR in the row), *CH 1 more, skip next stitch, Treble Crochet (TR) in next stitch* - repeat between *s to end of row. Turn work.
7. CH 1 (does NOT count as 1st SC in the row), SC across row. Turn work.
8. Repeat rows 3-7 until desired width is achieved (reaching from one shoulder across your back to the other shoulder), ending on row 7 (omitting the "Turn work" part).
9. Finish off and weave in ends with a yarn needle to hide the yarn tail.
10. Take your rectangle and fold it in half. Then, seam the corners together at each end to create arm holes.
To Make the Tie (Optional):
1. Chain a length of yarn as long as you'd like your tie to be + 2 chain stitches. My tie hangs down to my crotch. *giggle*
2. Half Double Crochet (HDC) in 3rd chain from hook, HDC across row.
3. Finish off (in loop from beginning slip knot) and weave in ends.
4. Center the tie along the top edge of the shrug. Seam the 2 pieces together for approximately 10" (or about half the width of your neck so that it hangs properly).
5. Weave in all ends with a yarn needle.
GOOD LUCK and ENJOY!!! Please feel free to contact me with any questions. If necessary, I'll add a Q&A for this project.
I'd love to see your finished projects. Maybe I'll create a special gallery just for your creations!
